The solution you've been seeking:

The Aesthetic Solution

An upholstered look with a self-creating valance

Sailshades have been designed for those who prefer an elegant interior design look. While other Roman shades have baggy folds that conceal much of the window when they're raised, Sailshades nest in a compact space because of a trademark proportion system that creates a cornice-like effect. (We have come to call this a "self-creating valance.") Even a Sailshade on a 7.5-foot high sliding glass door can nest completely off the glass in a space of less than one foot. Most importantly, the combination of exquisite design and high-quality face fabric ensures a timeless upholstered look.

The Economic Solution

To keep your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer, Sailshades have been engineered with a state-of-the-art reflective insulatiing material, and Roc-Lon, an out-facing black-out lining. (The estimated R value of Sailshade is 8.) Not only will your home be more comfortable with Sailshades, but you will experience a significant savings in your heating and air conditioning costs.

Sailshades in winter

When raised during winter days, Sailshades allow your home to benefit from the natural warmth of the sun's rays. When lowered during winter evenings, Sailshades become a wall of insulation for your home. Because Low-e incorporates 7 layers of insulative material, Sailshades reduce the heat lost through your windows' glass. Though savings in heating costs will vary from house to house, Sailshade clients have generally saved between 30% to 40% on their heating bill once their homes have Sailshades. This is a dramatic payback on your investment.

Sailshades in summer

During sweltering summer days, Sailshades are lowered to block the sun's beating rays. Sailshade's Roc-Lon out-facing lining (with an R value of 1.47) reflects away the sun's radiation, while the insulative Low-e keeps the hot outside air out. As a result, your home is cool and comfortable without exorbitant air-conditioning costs. And if you live in a climate that gets cool on summer evenings, lower your Sailshades at night as you would in the winter. They will continue to keep you cozy and warm all year long.

The Environmental Solution

If you are of the environmental mindset, you've certainly heard the expression, "Think globally, act locally." Well, we at Sailshade can do one better: When looking to change the world, first focus on your home. Homes adorned with Sailshades generally save between 30% and 40% on their heating costs. That amounts to a reduction in energy use of between 30% and 40%. Not only are you saving money on your heating costs, but you join hundreds of Sailshade owners who, since the product's inception 18 years ago, have contributed to saving our planet from tons of greenhouse gases. This is a solution that's ready and waiting. We, as a society, could make a drastic reduction in greenhouse gas emmisions if more people reduced the amount of energy used to heat their homes.

Warm your abode, not the globe!

The Versatile Solution

Because of their clean lines and aesthetic appeal, Sailshades are the most versatile curtain available. Whether you are seeking to add color to a small bathroom window or whether you are needing to insulate a large sliding glass door, Sailshades will do the trick. Whether you own a traditional New England farmhouse or a contemporary California home, Sailshades will fit right in. Whether you prefer all-natural canvas or cotton stripes, Sailshade can pull it off.

The Long-Lasting Solution

Unlike most window coverings, Sailshades have been crafted to last. Countless are going strong after 15 years and we are proud of it. But you may worry about such a commitment to the fabric you choose. Never fear! If you tire of the fabric after 4 or 5 years, Sailshades are easy to recover. We'll show you how or we'll refer you to someone who can provide that service for you.

The Easy Solution

We use special installation hardware, called lift-the-dot snaps, to make your Sailshades easy to put up and take down. This means installation and maintanence are a breeze!

Easy Installation

Sailshades have been designed to be easy to install. Each Sailshade is mounted over the window via a wooden headboard with lift-the-dot snaps. All you need to do is install the wooden headboard and then just snap your Sailshades into place.

We provide installation instructions and are always available for your questions.

Easy Maintenance

Because Sailshades are an upholstered curtain, they can be cleaned the same way you would clean, say, your couch. Vacuum them occasionally especially the top panel which is more apt to collect dust. When they need a more thorough cleaning, just take them down and use an upholstery shampoo.
